The council carried a motion to adopt the report on its e-bike strategy and policy and on shared e-bike parking bays, with amendments.

The councillor who moved the motion said the report had been deferred from the September meeting. Under the regulation the NSW Government has proposed, Transport for NSW would approve operators and councils would have limited power to refuse them, the mover said.

The mover said the NSW Government prefers on-road parking as a first choice, to keep shared e-bikes off footpaths, and that the council should investigate all options for on-road parking.

The seconder added three amendments, and all were incorporated. The council will write to reaffirm the need for better shared e-bike regulation, designated parking areas and more separated cycleways. Parking bays near transport nodes such as train stations get priority. The council also noted that ad hoc parking of rented e-bikes affects accessibility on narrow footpaths.
